About Us

The vocational college Berufliche Schule für Medien und Kommunikation, also known as bmk, is a public college and offers a variety of training courses in the areas of media, marketing and foreign languages. If you, for instance, want to become a media designer for digital and print media, a marketing communications assistant or a photographer, and have found a correspondent training company, the bmk will provide you with a profound and practice-oriented training.

In addition to traditional dual vocational training, the bmk also offers the opportunity to attain a higher education entrance qualification or an entrance qualification for a university of applied science. Our full-time training courses for students with an intermediate school-leaving certificate offer the opportunity to train for an assistant profession with a focus on media management and production, web design or foreign languages. Furthermore, you can complete language courses, including English, French, Russian, Spanish, Turkish and German or attend a course designed to prepare young people with a migrant background for vocational training.

Since 2021, we offer study-integrated training as an assistant in marketing communications plus business administration studies in cooperation with the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (BHH). By choosing BHH, students can obtain two full-fledged degrees in just four years: the vocational qualification and the bachelor’s degree. So, the BHH courses offer the best of three worlds: demanding practical skills in the company, broad knowledge of the entire vocational field in the vocational college, and academic skills and scientific methods in the university.

Our college is located in the area of Wandsbek within the city of Hamburg. It is equipped with modern IT, media and event technology as well as market research, photo, film and audio studios. Another highlight of our equipment is our “Fab Lab” with 3D printing, laser cutting and VR environment.

Activities

Erasmus+

We are committed to offering our students hands-on learning experiences within a European framework through Erasmus+. Together with our partner companies, we arrange internships that bring theory into practice. Through these internships, students not only gain essential professional skills but also engage in intercultural experiences, learning to appreciate diversity as a strength and preparing for life in a pluralistic society. This approach fosters a positive school environment where every student feels valued and secure.

In addition, we support our teaching staff in gaining international experience through Erasmus+, whether through courses, events, or job shadowing at schools in other European countries. These opportunities enhance their intercultural skills and deepen their understanding of diversity.

International Cooperations

We currently maintain partnerships and international projects with organizations in various countries, including the USA, Switzerland, France, Spain, and the Netherlands, and we are always eager to further expand our collaborations.

Kennesaw State University (KSU), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
For our trainees in the dual training program for marketing communications, we offer the opportunity to complete the school-based part of their training bilingually (German/English). A key element of this bilingual training is the exchange program with the Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

CFBT Graphisme, Marseille, France
We are very proud of our long-lasting cooperation with CFBT Graphisme. Our Media Designers for digital and print media carry out a two-week exchange program to design and produce a work product, that illustrates the best of both cities.

GBSSG St. Gallen, Switzerland
We have established a vivid cooperation with GBSSG to mutually enable job shadowing for our staff. Currently we are working on the design of an exchange program for our students starting in 2025.

International Visitors and Delegations

It is an integral part of our work to network with other institutions and it has been common practice for years to welcome international colleagues, professional visitors and groups of students to our school. This takes place in the context of job shadowing, student exchanges and Mediale, a large media congress that we organize annually at the school for the next generation of media, marketing and communication professionals.
